iBone Wins 'Best Musical Instrument App' as Trombone
Slides Into the Lead

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - February 18, 2010) - Spoonjack today announced that iBone -- the Pocket Trombone, has won the 'Best Musical Instrument App' of 2009 Award in the 2nd Annual 'Best App Ever Awards.' Unique among the thousands of music apps, iBone combines a capable and playable simulation of a trombone with a play along educational game easy enough for anyone to play. Users can play along with their iPod music or with a selection from the integrated iBone Songbook and let roboBone show them how.

With apps now totaling over 140,000, the Best App Ever Awards was founded by popular iPhone review site 148Apps to raise user awareness about the best apps available. Apps were nominated by a combination of users and industry experts during December 2009 and voted upon by users during January 2010.

"We're excited to have won this award," says Tom Scharfeld, founder of Spoonjack. "Our mission with iBone is to provide a high-tech tool for trombonists where few have existed, and an easy and fun way to make music and learn something about the trombone for everyone else. This recognition will help us reach a wider audience."

The 'Best Musical Instrument App' Award follows iBone's recent selection by Apple iTunes as a 'Staff Favorite' and adds an accolade to what Robin Eubanks, five-time Downbeat 'Trombonist of the Year' and Professor at Oberlin College calls "a great tool for trombonists," Carol Jarvis, trombonist with Seal and Sting, calls "Brilliant!" and Chris Kohler of Wired Magazine's Game|Life calls "an interesting experimental blend of gameplay and utility."

Also a favorite among students, band student Matthew G. adds, "This is by far my favorite app on my iPhone, and probably always will be. This app actually helps me play better and it's a really fun and useful app."

"We're seeing a resurgence in the popularity of the trombone as a lead instrument with incredible players and innovative groups featuring prominent trombone emerging from all over," continues Scharfeld. "While there's nothing like a great performer to encourage adoption, we'd like to see iBone feed the trend."
